Choosing Security Hardware: What Should You Look For?
Security hardware protects the cylinder and secures the lock to the door. A good choice is not just about appearance: shielding, dimensions, installation and compatibility with your cylinder are decisive.
Check how far the cylinder protrudes
The cylinder should not protrude unnecessarily beyond the hardware. A cylinder that is too long may be more vulnerable. Measure the door, hardware and current cylinder before choosing new hardware.
The security level and the correct fit are decisive.
- Check that the hardware fits your cylinder and PC measurement.
- Look for a suitable SKG classification.
- Choose a model that is firmly secured on the inside.
- Check that the door closes smoothly after installation.
Installation is part of security
Even good hardware works less effectively if screws, escutcheon or cylinder are installed incorrectly. Have the complete combination assessed for an unusual door, glass panel or burglary damage. View our burglary prevention service.
Frequently asked question
Is every security escutcheon cylinder-snap resistant?
No. Specifically ask whether the model protects against cylinder snapping and check that the cylinder does not protrude beyond the hardware.
